Our beautiful, river-front and well-treed site on Wellington Crescent, was a private residence until 1997, when the church purchased the property and built the addition which is now the sanctuary.

Living Room

Facilities include the sanctuary, the foyer, the back yard (riverfront), and various meeting rooms in the "house" half of the building, including a full kitchen and dining room, and a comfortable and classic living room complete with hardwood floors, comfy couches and an upright piano.

Enter! Rejoice! Come In!

When the Unitarian Universalist Church of Winnipeg was officially opened in the fall of 2001, the theme of ENTER! REJOICE! COME IN! was used to celebrate its completion. The product of several years of sweat equity, it was designed to combine old and new - the elegance of a mansion built in 1914 with the practicality of a commercial kitchen, a multipurpose sanctuary and lower level rooms for children and youth. A Building Use Policy was passed by the Board of Directors shortly afterwards. Consistent with the theme of ENTER! REJOICE! COME IN! Since then, the building has been actively used by for a great variety of membership activities from board and committee meetings through to chalice circles and workshops. In addition, there have been six kinds of major events held by members and non-members:

  1. Weddings Ceremonies and Receptions - typically, weddings occur on the weekends and involve planning over a three to six month period. Receptions are more formal and usually involve the catering of sit-down meals. Sizes range from 30 in mansion to 180 in sanctuary and are predictable from the invitations.
  2. Memorial Services and Receptions - typically, memorial services occur during the week and happen without much notice. Receptions are more informal and usually involve the catering of coffee or tea, sandwiches and dainties. Sizes are 100 plus and are unpredictable.
  3. Concerts and fund raisers - typically, concerts are on Friday or Saturday evenings in the sanctuary only and rarely involve catering. Sizes are usually 150 plus and are somewhat predictable from ticket sales.
  4. Retreats and workshops - retreats and workshops are usually two day events held in the sanctuary with spin-off groups using the living room of the mansion and the lower levels. Usually, they are on the weekends with coffee breaks and lunches are provided.
  5. "Wine and Cheese" - typically, wine and cheese are held in the living room and dining room areas of the mansion to celebrate birthdays, wedding showers etc. Capacity is 60 people but events are more comfortable at 45 or less.
  6. Movies - Because of the historic value of the property, the mansion has been considered several times as a location for movies but used only once. Movies are often filmed at nearby locations and movie crews have been served their meals by caterers using the kitchen and sanctuary. Sizes of movie events are 50 to 90 people. Also the parking lot has been used by film crews several times.

These facilities may be rented by church members or others for private functions including weddings, conferences, meetings and other events.

"They say such nice things about people at their funerals that it makes me sad to realize that I'm going to miss mine by just a few days."
