Public Forum Results RE Water/Waste in Winnipeg

E-mail Print PDF

On July 13th the Green Action committee cosponsored a public forum at our church together with the Council of Women of Winnipeg and the Provincial Council of Women of Manitoba. The topic was a hot one in Winnipeg. The city was proposing to turn the Water and Waste Department into a stand-alone Municipal Corporate Utility and proposing that a public\private partnership be established to design, build and operate a waste water treat plant. The church agreed to let the groups use the sanctuary without cost. The event was publicized through many lists. We expected a good response and got one. Fortunately all of the chairs were set out. We needed them. Well over 200 people attended.

Politics and UUs

Historically, Unitarian Universalists have often been active in political causes, notably the civil rights movement, the gay rights movement, the social justice movement, and the feminist movement.

In the 19th century, Unitarians and Universalists were active in abolitionism, the women's movement, the temperance movement and other social reform movements. The second woman's rights convention was held at the First Unitarian church in Rochester, NY.
