I’m excited. I’m excited in that “this is so great that I have to share because I just know you’ll be as excited as I am!!” way. Partly it’s because after all these years I still love the “back to school” feeling of late-summer/early fall. It’s the return to community that gets me, as much as the lure of new learning. It’s also because I’ve had the pleasure for the past month of working with an engaging new leader and colleague - Rev. Millie.

But mostly it’s this: I have the inside scoop on the programs that our children and youth will be exposed to this year. And it’s good stuff. Almost every age group is using a Tapestry of Faith curriculum that is amazing in its creativity, depth, and richness. (If you’re interested, all are available online at uua.org, or just ask me and I’ll show you a copy!)

Each provides faith development not only for those in the class, but for their families at home and for their Leaders in Religious Exploration (RE). As I’ve been reading through each one this summer, I have been truly blown away by the content. I wish I could sit in on every single session!

The one group not doing a Tapestry title is the Senior Youth group. They are following an equally exciting home-grown program that flows from their desire to learn more about our neighbouring faiths, while integrating social action.

I’m pleased that there will be opportunities through the year for the rest of the congregation to witness some of what our young people are doing, and to get involved with them.

The Committee for Religious Exploration has created a year full of programming that ministers to parents, to families, to children and youth, and to the whole Church. Because of course, we are all connected; we are all part of this community. It’s going to be great year!

To get involved, and for information about any RE programming, please contact me at 474-1261 or This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it . Information is also available in every newsletter and online, at www.uuwinnipeg.mb.ca.

In wonder and excitement,
