The Power of Transcendental Love
Unitarian Universalism as a Sociopolitical Movement
What is the religious mission of UUism? How did it translate historically into a sociopolitical movement for Americans? For Canadians? And what is the future role of UUism in the interfaith development of tomorrow’s global community?
- Session I: From Self-Discovery to Social Action – based on dialogue initiated by Waldo Emerson, Henry Thoreau, and Margaret Fuller at Walden Pond in 1844, and a presentation by Buckminster Fuller to the United States senate in 1969.
- Session II : The Legacy of Nonviolent Protest – based on the philosophy of Henry Dave Thoreau as it influenced Ghandi and then Martin Luther King Jr., and contributed to Canadian and American civil rights.
- Session III: Transcendental Love and The Politics of Change – applying the writings of Erich Fromm to today’s global village, to help it become a more loving and caring community.
