Steve at the Gift ShopFundraising Committee

The Fundraising Committee's efforts supplement the funds needed to support the work of our Winnipeg Church, and the Committee members coordinate the year’s fundraisers to coincide with other membership events.

Our goals are to put the “fun” into fundraising, to include as many UU members and friends as want to be involved in the events, and to uphold and integrate our purposes and principles in the way we fundraise. To that end, the committee has consciously made a decision to support Manitoba and Canadian producers and crafters in the products that we offer for sale in our UU Gift Shop, as well as to support far reaching efforts in offering Fair Trade world products to our customers.

In our yearly Services Sale, members and friends offer dinners, brunches, cleaning, babysitting and a myriad of services for us to purchase. This not only raises dollars in support of our programs, but attending these events bring us together socially and sometimes to one another’s homes - offering us a time to get to know one another better.

Twice a year we offer a Used Furniture, Book and Art Sale, and hold a yearly Jumbo Yard Sale in the spring. These events help members clean out their homes of things no longer needed (which become treasures to others), bring in needed funds to the congregation, and offer a time for us to work together for the church.

From time to time we hold concerts, sometimes featuring our own members’ musical talents. We have held dinners, an Edwardian Tea, craft sales and bake sales. New ideas and talents are always welcome. And when we need a hand, we hope you will be willing to join us in the work we do to support the programs of our Church. Simply contact a Committee co-chair and share your time, thoughts and ideas.

As always, thank you for your continuing support of Fun(d)raising. To those who remain on the Committee, to those who just joined this year, to those who come and go as supportive volunteers, to all our cheerful customers and to those who continue to donate their goods - books, furniture and treasures: we are grateful to you, one and all!

To volunteer or for more information please contact one of the Co-Chairs: Steve Lennon or Linda Henderson. The Board Liaison is Lise Desrochers.

Our Principles

We, the member congregations of the Canadian Unitarian Council, covenant to affirm and promote:

  • the inherent worth and dignity of every person;
  • justice, equity, and compassion in human relations;
  • acceptance of one another and encouragement to spiritual growth in our congregations;
  • a free and responsible search for truth and meaning;
  • the right of conscience and the use of the democratic process within our congregations and in society at large;
  • the goal of world community with peace, liberty, and justice for all;
  • respect for the interdependent web of all existence of which we are a part.
