Religious Exploration Committee

Mandate

The Committee for Religious Exploration plans, implements and evaluates religious exploration programs for children and youth in the Church in line with Unitarian Universalist principles and the Religious Exploration Vision Statement. This committee acts as a resource and support for the Director of Religious Exploration (DRE).

Responsibilities

  1. Review and select curriculum for each age group
  2. Recruit, train and support teachers and youth advisors
  3. Determine enrolment procedures and age ranges and logical groupings for classes
  4. Plan regular feedback and evaluation of the programs by parents, teachers and children
  5. Support the DRE in delivering the RE program
  6. Work with the Personnel Committee to recruit and provide professional evaluation for the DRE
  7. Ensure that all adults working with children and youth have met the safety standards of the church (i.e. Criminal Records Check, Child Abuse Registry, Fire Safety Plan, allergy awareness, etc.)
  8. Recruit and manage childcare providers for Nursery (subject to review)
  9. Advocate for Children and Youth within the Congregation
  10. Create events that support intergenerational community building within the congregation
  11. Communicate with other chairs in related areas (i.e. OWL oversight, Adult RE, Sunday Services, etc.)

Meetings

Meetings will be held at the call of the committee chair, approximately once per month during each church year (August to June).

While working in the White House, President Jefferson set out to edit four gospels. He was so convinced the Bible’s true message was hidden that he cut up the pages and reedited it. He wanted to do away with the artificial stuff and restore the genuine doctrines. Some of the controversial changes were removing the virgin birth and the resurrection. He wanted the authentic message of Jesus, such as absolute love, forgiveness, and service rather than the miracle of annunciation.
