Communication Website Updates New Site Template Aug. 26, 2010

New Site Template Aug. 26, 2010

E-mail Print PDF

Whoo, boy, lots of changes! Some of my last post -- just 2 days ago -- already aren't pertinent anymore (the tabs, for example, which are gone).

I hit the wall with the old template, and felt it wasn't serving several needs, so it's shelved for now. Still keeping the green theme (because of our lovely trees) but hopefully this "look" feels to you as it does to me: more spacious and easier to navigate, without looking too brash.

Here are some important changes to check out:

  • The menus are all at the top, and have a "drop down" feature that is quite nice.
  • The three "A" buttons in the banner allow you to grow and shrink the font size of the text on the page.
  • The Search box is now in the upper right corner of the site, under the three "A"s.
  • There are "Share" buttons on the right which allow you to share content from the website on your fav social networking site (like Facebook). (working now!)
  • Google analytics has been enabled on the site. Look forward to periodic reports on website traffic in 2010/2011.
  • Hackguard will protect our site from many of the most malicious attacks.
  • The Announcements and other items on the right all have collapse/expand buttons (the little arrow on the right) that you can click on to make the list shrink down or expand again.
  • The page will shrink and grow as you resize your browser's window.
  • Quick Links list is at the bottom left.
  • Site updates, UU Planet TV and Log In are also on the bottom left.
  • After you log in, the Members Menu is a single menu item at the top on the right side.
  • The site is more accessible than the last one due to some invisible settings that allow people with vision impairment to skip sections and jump directly to content.

I hope you will This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it with ideas, feedback, and espeically if you can't find something or some component isn't working. You should mention which browser you are using (Internet Explorer, Firefox, Safari, Opera, etc.) and what version (found under the Help menu under "About"). This site works best with newer browsers (espcially Internet Explorer). Older (version 6 and older) versions of IE don't recognise transparencies and a certain kind of image called a .png, which are used a lot on this site. (If you haven't upgraded your IE in awhile, go here for the newest version -- it's free!! Or better yet, switch to FireFox, it's a better browser).

Thanks for reading! Happy surfing!

Unitarians Come to America

Universalism came to America from England, where the old doctrine that all human beings would eventually be saved through Jesus Christ and join in harmony with God in heaven had finally become the central doctrine of a separate denomination.

Webside Pulpit

“Yet without love, nothing matters. Break your life into a million pieces and ask yourself what of any real value might endure after you are gone. The pieces that remain will each carry love’s signature. Without love, we are left only with the aching hollow of regret, that haunting emptiness where love might have been.”
