Website Update June 13, 2010
Tabs
The green/brown (now all green) "banner" across the top of the site got some major love this week. I figured out (finally) how to adjust the colors in the CSS (that's Cascading Style Sheet to you) to make the tabs actually LOOK like tabs, and did away with the brown altogether.
New in the tabs is the "Thought for the Day" which has been morphed it into the "Webside Pulpit."
UU Bits and Bytes is also in the tabs now (it used to be way at the bottom). Both of these items have a store of random articles: refresh the page (or go to a new one) to get a different message.
"Quick Links" has its own green tab (it's sad that it doesn't still have a corner, but it IS the first one, so it still feels special... besides, now it has friends).
Also new in the tabs: "Spotlight." I have been asked to provide a special location for items of a timely nature, or items which I feel deserve a little more press. This is it. There may be several in there at one time: refresh the page to see a different one.
From a Communication meeting several weeks ago, I was inspired to add the Announcements to the right top area of the right sidebar, and styled the header with an arrow to draw attention to it. There is a link to see all the announcements at the same time. There are two new links there, as well, to encourage people to put their announcements directly on the site (you have to have a password to do this). If that's not your cup of tea, please remember to CC me when you are sending your announcement to Lee for inclusion in the church emails, or to Joyce for inclusion in the Communicator.
We might be coming to a time where all announcements would be here instead of the increasingly lengthy email (or in concert with). [If you have an opinion on this, for or against, This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .]
But the biggest change, and the only change I am anticipating a reaction to, is the disabling/removal of the main menu that was on the left side of most pages. I didn't use it, people I've watched using the site don't use it, and frankly it was like the old couch in the corner that was just collecting clutter: taking up valuable space. It still exists, so if there's a large contingent of "I need that!" I can put it back in. Time will tell.
Enjoy the day, and happy surfing!
