Spring

tree_in_back.jpgChanges and Looking To Summer

I can't believe that it's almost June. With this weather it seems like it's been July, and then September, and then July again, back-and-forth. (This week it's been more like the proverbial April with the showers and all...) Come summer, of course, our ranks thin a bit as we scatter to cottages and summer pursuits that don't include church. So although I'm feeling a little sad to see our season wind up, I'm so happy about the weather and how many we have been at church lately: nice to see so many people.

New Fanfare, Anyone?

This morning our Fanfare didn't work. I knew about this earlier in the week but had forgotten, so I brought my mighty Mac, ripped the CD (the computer read it fine, the CD player, not so much), hooked the Mac into the board, and voila! Fanfare. Perhaps this is a sign that we need to consider a new fanfare (I've heard several people mention it), which got me thinking. This week I think I'll make a new CD with several different fanfares, and (with the Sunday Service and Summer Sunday Service Committees' blessings, of course) we can try them out over the summer. Do YOU have a favorite fanfare that you'd like to be included? Please This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .

Spring Cleaning

Part of Spring is of course the spring cleaning, and I have been alternating between my basement (argh!) and my email (argh! argh!). In my email I found a piece from the Board from a few months ago, describing our beautiful grounds, and some information about renting. The piece is posted, along with some pictures, here. There's a new link in the Members' Menu, too, so members (you have to be logged in to the site to see it) and friends can request a room at the church for an event (the form is here).

The June Communicator is posted, there's a new tutorial in the Website Help section on setting up an RSS feed, and I'm all up-to-date on the Board Meeting Minutes. Now, if you'll excuse me, I have laundry to do.

UU Bits and Bytes

A Brief History of Universalism

The doctrine of universalism has appeared occasionally in Christian theology since the early church. Origen of Alexandria (c.185-c.254) and Gregory of Nyssa (c.335 – after 394) are among its more famous exponents, although both spoke more in terms of hope and possibility than assured doctrine. In 1793, Universalism became a separate Christian denomination in the United States, which was eventually called the Universalist Church of America (UCA).

“When dying comes calling at the door, like a bracing wind it clears our being of pettiness. It connects us to others. More alert to life’s fragility, we reawaken to life’s preciousness. To be fully human is to care, and attending to death prompts the most eloquent form of caring imaginable.”
