December 15, 2009

Dear All: We have many gifts to be thankful for this year at the First Unitarian Universalist Church of Winnipeg!

Building on the foundation created by the previous Search team, our talented and dedicated Ministerial Search Committee put in many hours on behalf of all of us to find a new minister who would be just the right fit for our congregation. In August, we welcomed the Reverend Millie Rochester and her husband Roger to Winnipeg, and November 1 we officially “installed” our new minister.

During the year, we made a small but important change, renaming our Religious Education program to Religious Exploration, and Andrea James’ role to Director of Religious Exploration.

This change better reflects the nature and philosophy of the program, which continues to nurture the growth of children, youth and young adults within our community, and to provide opportunities for intergenerational learning and exchange as we move towards our vision of a true “Lifespan Learning” model. This year, as part of our “Start Up” seminar facilitated by Wendy McNiven, we reflected on our history and the events that have shaped our community and its relationships. We allowed ourselves to dream about the future, and set some priorities for ourselves to work on. Sustainability, stewardship, and right relations were important themes.

We’ve covered a lot of ground this year. It is time to pause, and to appreciate the presence of those around us, and the magic of the season. Each and every one of you is a gift!
