balloonsCommittee Carnival February 12/12

Come one and come all to the UU “Committee Carnival” happening at the church on Sunday February 12, right after the service! There will be display tables for the many committees of our church, as well as games, giveaways, and prizes! This will be a great opportunity to showcase your committee to the congregation, and for everyone to find out what happens behind the scenes that makes our church operate so well. It’s also a chance to meet new faces, connect people, and maybe even increase the participation and/or membership in your committee’s work. The Carnival will run from service ending until 1 PM.

Steve Lennon and Pat Lane, along with Larry Phillips, are coordinating this event, and we are looking forward to hearing your ideas. We encourage you to discuss whether you wish to participate, and how, at your next committee meeting.

The basic outline of what we have come up with thus far is that there will be a table available for each committee, along with two chairs. What goes on that table will be up to you, but you may want to have handouts available that describe very briefly the kind of activities that your committee engages in. In addition, we are encouraging that each committee also offer a ‘treat’ for visitors to your table. Examples of treats could be cookies, a handout of recycling tips, music or poetry, a recipe, pearls of wisdom – you decide!

Many committees require, at certain times of the year, people to assist in special events that the committee engages in, such as the yard clean-up in spring. You could have a sign-up sheet available at your table, and offer a half-page handout of activities that ‘Friends of the Committee’ could help with at certain times.

On the day of the Committee Carnival, why not plan on visiting other booths, by rotating the staffing of your own? That way you will get a chance to see the inner workings of other engines of the church, and maybe pick up some interesting treats!

The key ingredients we are looking for regarding the Committee Carnival are fun, connection and participation, elements in which Unitarian Universalists are already well-versed. We look forward to hearing from you.
